When we think of a New Moon, it is easy to visualize the Conjunction of the Sun and Moon as both a phase of an ending and a beginning. You can look up at the sky and see the sliver of the Waning Crescent Moon and watch as a day or two later, there is no Moon just the shadow of where it was. A day or two after that the Moon begins to wax and you can see a new sliver forming again. There is something so inherently beautiful about the Moon in the Sky during this phase. It has been calling to my soul since I was a child and I first had memories of seeing it. I find watching the first Stars shining at twilight, often the planets Venus and Mercury, to be equally awe inspiring.
Every planet in our solar system has this relationship with the other planets. A cycle that begins and ends with a Conjunction. I began to look at Saturn and Neptune in this way and found that the last conjunction of these two planets was in 1989. Saturn Neptune aspects take a long time forming and separating. Saturn takes about 29 years for its circuit around the Zodiac, but Neptune takes about 164 years. Saturn the faster of the two planets chases Neptune and then backs away during its retrograde phase. Neptune backs up in the heavens for months at a time, very slowly, but can be backing up as Saturn approaches.
This coming February 7th 2012 Saturn stations retrograde at 29 degrees of Libra about a degree from the exact Trine with Neptune in the last degree of Aquarius. Saturn will have one last stay in Libra for a review of lessons regarding relationships and balance. Neptune begins moving forward on the 9th of November this year. I find Neptune stationing here very interesting, in this season of Halloween and All Saints Day so close to Remembrance Day.
I was looking at the last Saturn Neptune Conjunction. There was an exact Conjunction on March 3rd 1989. The Conjunction took place at 11.55 degrees of Capricorn. The Moon and Uranus were also in Capricorn. Saturn and Neptune were Sextile Pluto in Scorpio and Sun in Pisces, but were Sesquiquadrate a Jupiter Mars Conjunction in Taurus. The Sesquiquadrate, an aspect of 135 degrees, can represent an unbalanced energy force. The Aspect between Saturn/Neptune and Mars/Jupiter was between Capricorn and Taurus, both Earth signs. The Sabian Symbol for 11 to 12 degrees is, 'An Illustrated Lecture on Natural Science Reveals Little Known Aspects of Life.' Several days later there was a massive Geomagnetic Storm, that was described as a River of Charged Particles with Intense Auroras at the Earth's poles. What was conceived on our Earth at this time?
Saturn pulled away from the Conjunction and many years later began forming a Waxing Trine to Neptune. On June 25th 2001 There was an exact Trine between Saturn at 8.16 Gemini and Neptune at 8.16 Aquarius. A Trine between Air Signs. As the Trine was forming a new Comet was discovered streaking through the sky towards the Earth. Part of the comet broke off and it was quite a spectacle. There was much talk about what this would portend. On the day of the exact Trine this new Comet could be seen clearly in the sky from the Southern Hemisphere.
The Waxing Trine can be thought of as moving towards something new, as yet unformed, like anticipating what is beyond the curve in the road.
So now Saturn is forming a Waning Trine with Neptune at the end of it's Era in Aquarius and Saturn stationing retrograde at 29 degrees of Libra. Air signs again. It's certainly cause for thought, but we will have almost a year to think about it, because the exact Conjunction happens on October 10th 2012, with Saturn at 0 degrees of Scorpio and Neptune at 0 degrees of Pisces.
I imagine a Waning Trine to be like Autumn. What was planted at the Conjunction, grew and flowered at the Waxing Trine, and then bore fruit at the Opposition. So now, at the Waning Trine the seeds of the fruit are being formed again to be planted at the next Conjunction.

Saturn and Neptune combines the practicality of Saturn with the deeply sensitive nature of Neptune. There is so much to Life that is a Mystery. Saturn Trine Neptune can be about developing a deeper vision of our day to day existence. We can ask ourselves questions like, What does it all mean? Neptune allows us to be in awe of life and it's mysteries. Saturn Trine Neptune asks us to keep moving forward, to be inspired, but to remember that life is short. Saturn wants us to incorporate our dreams and visions about our life in practical ways. So that while we are gazing up at the sky in awe, we remember to keep our feet on the ground.
I will leave you with that.
